In the same month as adding Microsoft to client roster, leaders in carbon management are recognised at forefront of the industry
London, 9 May 2013: For the third year running, The CarbonNeutral Company has been voted Best Offset Retailer 2013 in a survey by Environmental Finance. The accolade, voted for by the carbon industry, recognises the company for its reliability, innovation and quality of service in the sourcing of carbon credits and the service it delivers to its clients. The award culminates a period of strong client growth for the company after it recently became preferred carbon credit supplier to tech-giant Microsoft.
Stephen Killeen, CEO of The CarbonNeutral Company, commented: “It’s a huge coup for us to receive this award for the third consecutive year, as it represents a powerful endorsement from our peers in the industry. It is recognition for the quality, expertise and knowledge of our team, our relationships with our suppliers and partners, and the value and service we deliver to our clients all over the world. As this award demonstrates, we pride ourselves on our commitment to identifying the best quality and most relevant carbon projects to meet our clients’ requirements, and preserving high levels of integrity and quality within the carbon market.“
“We selected The CarbonNeutral Company to supply the carbon offsets for Microsoft because of the commitment they show to understanding the specific requirements of our business and their track record of delivering the level of quality assurance that is essential for the credibility and integrity of our carbon neutral programme,” said TJ DiCaprio, senior director of Environmental Sustainability at Microsoft.
Since it began in 1997, The CarbonNeutral Company has contracted with more than 250 projects around the world. Recently this has included the first REDD+ project in the state of Acre Brazil which has also achieved dual Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community and Biodiversity standard (CCB) verification, the first Gold Standard cook stove and water filtration project in Guatemala, efficient cook stove projects in Ghana and Zambia, and the first REDD+ project in Cambodia - Oddar Meanchey.
As pioneers in using the carbon markets to enable businesses to meet their carbon management and business goals, the company is also working with clients to structure projects that are directly aligned to their specific business interests and supply chains, and developing processes to evaluate the biodiversity value of projects in addition to their carbon reduction benefits.
Zubair Zakir, Director of Carbon Sourcing for The CarbonNeutral Company, said “Our carbon desk reviewed 90 million tonnes of carbon credits last year, representing a significant percentage of what was available on the voluntary market. But we recognise that success is about far more than tonnage alone. Everything we procured went through our rigorous due diligence process and allowed us to ensure we are focused on projects that deliver guaranteed emission reductions and meet the specific interests of our clients, whether that’s efficiency, innovation, biodiversity protection or community support.”
