Cut a Kilo of CO2 on Peterborough’s Green Day, 18th November 2009

18 November 2009 |

Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) encourages local businesses across the city to ‘Cut a Kilo of CO2’ in 24 hours

Peterborough’s Green Day celebrates the city’s growing reputation as the UK’s Environment Capital, marking the day when local leaders launched the green aspiration in November last year. This year, Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) is encouraging local businesses to show their support for Peterborough’s eco ambition on 18th November 2009 by:

1. Taking simple steps to Cut a Kilo of CO2 on the day; and
2. Advertising that they are doing this by wearing an item of green clothing, for example a tie, a shirt, a dress or a pair of shoes.

Peterborough is setting a national lead by asking businesses to ‘Cut a Kilo’ on Green Day and have enlisted the help of carbon offsetting and carbon management experts The CarbonNeutral Company to provide resources for organisations taking part.

Rebecca Fay, Marketing Director, The CarbonNeutral Company said, “As a carbon offset and carbon management business working with thousands of small and medium sized businesses, we are really pleased to support Peterborough Environment City Trust on its Green Day on the 18th of November. We are encouraging all businesses in Peterborough to make a real change to the environment by measuring and reducing their CO2 emissions. Together with PECT, we are providing a free online carbon calculator to enable businesses to measure the amount of CO2 they produce plus a simple Cut out a Kilo of CO2 campaign to help them reduce their environmental impact. We hope that these tools will help businesses in Peterborough take the lead in showing how managing carbon emissions can deliver benefits commercially and to the climate.”

Nyree Ambarchian from environmental charity, Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) said: “Cutting a Kilo of CO2 is easier than you might think and there will be plenty of help available for organisations taking part. You could encourage employees to cycle to work instead of driving -cycling instead of driving for 3 miles saves a kilo of CO2, or turn your PC monitor off at lunchtime -130 people doing this for 45 mins saves a kilo.”

“The aim is to get as many businesses on board as possible and show them how easy it is to ‘Cut a Kilo’. Hopefully once people see how effortless it can be they will keep it up.”
