We are pleased to announce the release of the 2017 version of The CarbonNeutral Protocol, assuring the continuing quality of CarbonNeutral® certification. The 2017 Protocol has been updated to reflect the growing demand for high quality carbon neutral services, carbon credits and renewable energy certificates around the world.
Hundreds of companies throughout the world use The CarbonNeutral Protocol to achieve CarbonNeutral® certification for their entire operations or for particular events, products or services. First published in 2002, a new version of the Protocol is released annually to ensure that it follows the latest industry and scientific best practice and continues to deliver the global standard for claims of carbon neutrality.
“We are launching the 2017 version of The CarbonNeutral Protocol at a time when the interest and demand for carbon neutral companies, products and services is continuing to rise,” says Jonathan Shopley, Managing Director, Natural Capital Partners. “We are pleased to be working with the climate leading companies that see value to their business from taking action now to reduce emissions to zero while building low carbon sustainable development throughout the world.”
The 2017 CarbonNeutral Protocol includes a new case study on page 32 showing how certified CarbonNeutral® company UKCloud is attracting and retaining clients with its CarbonNeutral® cloud services. Case studies from Sky, Tata Steel, Quark Expeditions, Sopra Steria, and Tresmontes Lucchetti further demonstrate that winning new business, enhancing credibility among current and prospective customers, engaging staff and building reputation are some of the top reasons why companies choose to reduce their emissions to net zero.
As increasing numbers of companies realise the benefits of procuring carbon neutral flights, paper, electricity and more, in Appendix 2.8 we provide clarity on how to report emissions from carbon neutral products and services.
In addition to purchasing carbon credits, we can help you address your Scope 2 emissions effectively and credibly by sourcing 100% renewable electricity to match your global operations. Appendix 2.2 details the disclosure requirements for businesses seeking to make a market-based Scope 2 reporting declaration in support of their CarbonNeutral® certification.
Natural Capital Partners is introducing a programme of activities in 2017 to ensure that CarbonNeutral® companies get the most value from their certification, from maintaining an efficient carbon footprint to enhancing communications to drive greater change.
“We look forward to another year of helping businesses to achieve their environmental goals,” says Shopley.
