Renewable Energy

Clients are able to immediately and effectively meet their global renewable energy targets, support the generation of renewable energy in the locations of interest to them, and address their Scope 2 impacts, through our customised, global portfolios of renewable energy instruments. Our renewable energy solutions meet all Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol requirements and CDP quality criteria, providing greater recognition to businesses buying renewable energy certificates.

8.3% growth and a record $286 billion invested in renewables in 2015 sends a strong signal to investors and policymakers that renewable energy is now the preferred option for new power generation capacity around the world.

International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

Sourcing renewable energy

We deliver a wide range of renewable energy solutions to meet our clients’ requirements for high-quality, global renewable energy instruments which match their consumption; including Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) in North America, Guarantees of Origin (GOs) in Europe, and Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) in the UK, as well as International RECs (I-RECs), Tradable Instruments for Global Renewables (TIGRs) and PowerPlus™ across the rest of the world. We are licensed to sell Green-e Energy and EKOenergy certified renewable energy instruments.

Our sourcing expertise, unrivalled network of partners, global product portfolio and industry experience enables us to create a renewable energy solution that will deliver the best value for your business in terms of technology, location, size and age of the power plant, and price.

We have included a selection of renewable energy projects on our project browser - from wind RECS in Nebraska, to hydro GOs in Norway, to solar I-RECs in China - to give a flavour of the options that are available to your business.

Each MWh is tracked from issuance to transfer and through to retirement/redemption on third-party registries or through attestation to reliably evidence your renewable energy claim.

A global solution

Rest of world consumption

For electricity consumption outside North America and Europe, there are several renewable energy tracking instrument types available. I-REC, TIGR and PowerPlus™ all guarantee that certificates have not been double-counted, double-issued or double-claimed. Similar to a REC and a GO, one certificate is issued per MWh produced, and is transferred as proof to clients that the electricity has been generated using renewable sources. I-REC was launched in 2014 and is governed by the International REC Standard, a non-profit organisation with the goal of empowering electricity purchasers to make renewable consumption choices in any region of the world. The TIGRs system was launched in 2016 by APX, the organisation that established all US REC infrastructure. APX has been providing registries for over 15 years and supports tradable markets valued in excess of $1 billion.

PowerPlus is an additional renewable energy product enabling your business to match its MWh energy consumption with renewable electricity production from within the same market. PowerPlus™ is tracked and retired on third-party registries and underpinned by leading standards for verifying renewable power projects. Visit the PowerPlus™ website to learn more.
