How can my business meet its renewable energy target?

Clients are able to immediately and effectively meet their global renewable energy targets, support the generation of renewable energy in the locations of interest to them, and address their Scope 2 impacts, through our customised, global portfolios of energy attribute certificates. Our renewable energy solutions meet all Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol requirements and CDP quality criteria, providing greater recognition to businesses buying energy attribute certificates.

8.3% growth and a record $286 billion invested in renewables in 2015 sends a strong signal to investors and policymakers that renewable energy is now the preferred option for new power generation capacity around the world.

International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

What are energy attribute certificates and how do they work?

Energy attribute certificates each track 1 MWh of renewable energy from production through to consumption and retirement on third-party registries, to reliably evidence your renewable energy claim.

North America and Europe

We deliver a wide range of renewable energy solutions to meet our clients’ requirements for high-quality, global energy attribute certificates which match their consumption, including Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) in North America, Guarantees of Origin (GOs) in Europe, and Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) in the UK.

Rest of World

For companies with operations across the rest of the world, we offer International RECs (I-RECs), Tradable Instruments for Global Renewables (TIGRs) and PowerPlus™. I-REC was launched in 2014 and is governed by the International REC Standard, a non-profit organisation with the goal of empowering electricity purchasers to make renewable consumption choices in any region of the world. The TIGRs system was launched in 2016 by APX, which has been providing registries for over 15 years and supports tradable markets valued in excess of $1 billion. PowerPlus™ is an additional renewable energy product enabling your business to match its MWh energy consumption with renewable electricity production from within the same market. Visit the PowerPlusTM website to learn more.

Natural Capital Partners works closely with clients, project developers and the I-REC Standard to bring new projects online in emerging countries and accelerate the deployment of renewable power generation around the world.

With our commitment to 100% renewable energy and carbon neutrality, we’re on the next stage of our journey towards delivering a net positive impact. Over the next three years we will progressively move our global operations to meet the renewable energy target and finance low carbon development projects to cover our remaining emissions.

Quality assurance: Buying energy attribute certificates

In accordance with The GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance, companies of all sizes can source energy attribute certificates to reduce their reportable Scope 2 emissions and cost-effectively meet their targets in the geographies most important to them. Energy attribute certificates are critical to ensuring that a business meets its targets with a high quality solution.

Our sourcing expertise, unrivalled network of partners, global product portfolio and industry experience enables us to create a renewable energy solution that will deliver the best value for your business in terms of technology, location, and the size and age of the power plant.

All of our renewable energy solutions guarantee that certificates have not been double-counted, double-issued or double-claimed. They are tracked and retired on third-party registries and are underpinned by leading standards which verify renewable power projects. We are also licensed to sell Green-e Energy and EKOenergy certified energy attribute certificates, which add additional quality criteria to your renewable energy claim.

Address your Scope 1 emissions with green gas

Companies with operations in the UK now have a cost-effective, quality solution to address direct emissions from gas used to power their facilities: Natural Capital Partners offers clients the opportunity to purchase Green Gas Certificates to address their Scope 1 emissions with renewable power.

The Green Gas Certificate Scheme (GGCS) enables the tracking of biomethane (“green gas”) from landfill gas and anaerobic digestion facilities that inject green gas directly into the gas grid. The GGCS registry tracks the production, sale and retirement of Green Gas Certificates and eliminates the risk of double counting, ensuring the integrity of renewable gas claims being made by consumers. Global disclosure platform CDP recognises the purchase of Green Gas Certificates as a credible means for businesses to report lower Scope 1 emissions and make 100% renewable gas claims.
