Water

Meet your commitments to water stewardship through projects which deliver verified results and impact in water-stressed areas. Whether it is to improve resilience in your supply chain, deliver a broad environmental programme, or enhance your reputation in consumer markets, water stewardship projects use results-based finance to enable you to immediately meet your targets and deliver positive impact to communities.

Almost 900 million people worldwide do not have access to safe drinking water, and up to five million people die each year from water-related illnesses.

Our water projects

In addition to water stewardship, the projects deliver positive impacts to health and well-being, food and financial security, and women’s empowerment.

Projects include water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), water efficient agriculture, provision of clean drinking water, and solar water heating.  The project results are all independently verified through the Gold Standard or the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS).

Water footprinting

A water footprint is the volume of freshwater used to produce a product or operate a business, measured over the full supply chain. This includes the volume of rainwater, surface, and groundwater consumed, and the volume of water used to divert pollutants.

With the support of our independent third-party assessment partners, we can help you measure and reduce your water footprint.

About our assessment partners

Water stewardship

All our water projects are verified to third-party standards to ensure they deliver results.

The Water Benefit Standard has been launched by the Gold Standard to support water projects using a results-based financing mechanism. Funds generated through the sale of certificates are used to develop water supply, purification, and conservation projects in areas with very limited access.

One Water Benefit Certificate is issued per cubic metre of water impacted (supplied, purified or conserved), up to 40,000 cubic metres. For larger scale projects a discount factor is used depending on the size, for instance one Water Benefit Certificate for 10 cubic metres of water.

All our water stewardship projects offer you a tangible figure to meet your water stewardship commitments and demonstrate industry leadership.
